Behind the scenes at the 46th Annual Variety Show of Hearts Telethon

Well, it’s all wrapped up! The 46th Annual Variety Show of Hearts Telethon has come and gone just like that.

It was yet another tough production to put together, but we have many things to be proud of. Most importantly, we saw a record number of viewers tuning in this year, making this the highest rated Show of Hearts Telethon we’ve had in 10 years! There are certainly many factors contributing to this boost, but we like to think it’s because our community recognizes the need to help the special needs children of British Columbia. Many of us are blessed with good health, but we haven’t forgotten those who aren’t so fortunate. And by tuning in and donating to Variety, which has been so crucial to getting the treatment and equipment these children require, we’re making our contribution.

So a VERY BIG thank you to all who donated this year! Variety BC would not be the same without your support.

The dates for the 2013 Variety Show of Hearts Telethon are set for February 16-17, 2013. We hope you and many others tune in next year to, once again, raise money for the special needs children of British Columbia.

In the meantime, we’ll be taking a bit of a hiatus, to recuperate and begin making plans for the 2013 edition of the Show of Hearts. We’ll still be blogging and tweeting during this time, so continue checking in with us for news and updates as we transition into next year’s telethon.

Bye for now.

Groove on ya, Deb.

If you missed the magic moments on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon this past weekend, don’t fret. You can watch them on our Telethon page on Global BC’s website.

We raised $6,753,012 over 23 hours on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon to help BC’s children with special needs. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR DONATIONS!

Many wonderful families and guests visited the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon this past weekend… including R2D2.

…And we’re still going strong. We’ve been tweeting the heck out of the telethon and live blogging on Global BC’s website but we’re not breaking yet. There’s still 19 hours to go!

There are many tired legs and sore feet, but hey, we’re not complaining. We’re sucking it up for the special needs kids of BC.

If you haven’t donated yet, do it now! 310-KIDS or at variety.bc.ca.

We have moved into the Red Robinson Theatre… a productive day indeed.

And we’re off to the Red Robinson Show Theatre in Coquitlam for the last bit of preparation and to begin rehearsals.

Much of our crew has already spent countless hours there this past week setting up the stage and equipment and building the phone banks where our hundreds of amazing volunteers will be answering the phones and taking pledges from you equally-amazing viewers and supporters of Variety.

Perhaps it’s the lack of sleep, but we think… wait, what were we going to say? Oh can’t remember now. Oh well…

Tune in tomorrow on Global BC, starting at 7pm, and see all the great entertainment and stories. Make your donation and make a positive difference in the lives of BC children with special needs. And don’t forget, we’ll be live-blogging on Global BC’s website and live-tweeting @SOHTelethon during the show, so follow us and join the conversation!

You can now check in with us on Global BC’s website for info on the telethon, the featured kids, ways to donate, AND to join our live blog during the telethon on Feb 11-12. Just hit the link above!

… so we’re keeping this short.

This is when everything seems to happen all at once. Props, equipment, and crew begin their move to the Red Robinson Show Theatre in a few short days from now. All our hosts begin their preparations with all the info we have bombarded on them. Editing is winding down with the last remaining cuts. Scheduling and coordinating frenzy continues with the hundreds of guests and staff who will be attending the telethon. And yet, we all look so cool keeping everything under control.

Check back here and on our Twitter feed this coming week. There will be loads of activity in the next several days, especially when we move into our studio set.

Six days and counting…

It’s done! 23 hours of live television laid out (and colour-coded)!
